Raftul — e-commerce marketplace platform

A production-oriented online store for the Romanian and EU market (shown under a fictional brand): storefront with typo-tolerant search, promotions, multi-warehouse stock, checkout with card, cash on delivery and bank transfer, returns, SEO built in, a REST API for mobile apps and a role-based admin panel.

Overview

Overview

A complete marketplace-ready store: from browsing and search to cart, coupon, checkout, order processing, refunds and returns — all running end to end against a real PostgreSQL database. The client's brand, domain and company data are replaced in this presentation; the screenshots come from an anonymised copy with generated demo data (84 products, 71 customers, 260 orders).

Highlights

  • Search that forgives typos: exact SKU/EAN, accent-insensitive full-text search with synonyms and prefix matching, then trigram typo tolerance — "samsng" still finds Samsung, "televizr" finds TVs — with "did you mean" suggestions from successful past searches.
  • Promotions engine: automatic catalog discounts, coupons, buy-X-get-Y, bundles, free shipping, first-order and customer-group offers; the struck-through price follows the EU Omnibus rule (lowest price in the last 30 days).
  • Inventory per warehouse with reservations at order time and row-level locks, so overselling is impossible; every change writes a stock movement.
  • Checkout and payments: card through Stripe's hosted checkout, cash on delivery and bank transfer behind one payment interface; shipping rates by method, zone, weight and class, with courier tracking links.
  • SEO first: clean hierarchical URLs, automatic 301s when products move, noindex for filter combinations except curated landing pages, full structured data, chunked sitemaps with hreflang, a Google Merchant feed and an SEO health dashboard.
  • Admin panel with 7 roles and editable permissions: orders, returns, stock, promotions, content, SEO, abandoned carts, CSV/Excel import and export, analytics — every change audit-logged.
  • Built for growth: multi-vendor data model (sellers, commissions, payouts), a versioned REST API for future mobile apps, and a Postgres-backed job queue for e-mails, repricing and abandoned-cart reminders.

Security and GDPR

Argon2id passwords, hashed session tokens, lockout after failed logins, rate limiting, CSRF checks, input validation everywhere, sanitised HTML, re-encoded uploads, formula-safe CSV exports; consent-based analytics, self-service data export and account deletion.

Case study

Challenge

A retailer needed a store that could grow into a marketplace without a rewrite: fast search over a large catalogue, promotions that respect EU price-display rules, stock that never oversells across warehouses, and SEO strong enough to compete with the big Romanian players — while keeping card data off its servers.

Solution

One Next.js codebase with strictly separated layers: pages, server actions and the versioned REST API all call the same domain services (catalog, pricing, search, cart, orders, inventory, returns), so the backend is ready for mobile apps. Money is stored in integer minor units with VAT derived per line; search runs inside PostgreSQL (full-text plus pg_trgm) behind a provider interface; stock reservations use row-level locks; payments, couriers, e-mail, storage and AI sit behind adapters that switch on with environment variables. A Postgres job queue drives e-mails, repricing and abandoned-cart reminders.

Results

The full core runs end to end — browse, search, cart, coupon, checkout, order, admin processing, refund and return — with unit and integration tests for pricing, search, sanitising, CSV safety, overselling, refunds and order transitions. External services switch on through configuration, and the admin shows exactly which integrations are still missing.

Our role

Architecture, data modelling, backend and frontend development, search and pricing engines, payments and shipping integrations, SEO, security, admin panel, testing and documentation.
